Offered for sale is a fine condition example of this field telescope, as used by British Snipers, during the 2nd WW, together with a Short, wooden legged, Tripod. The telescope has all standard features, and is of brass, with the main body and sliding sun shield, covered in fine, smooth, dark tan coloured leather, with sound stitching. There are 3 brass draw tubes, with clear and smooth movement to the 2nd and 3rd draw tube. The Objective lens measures 1.75 inches. Please note that in using this telescope, the image is clear and focus is smooth. It is amazing that this is achieved, despite the fact that the Plano Concave aspect, of the Crown/Flint combination, forming the Objective lens, is cracked. This does not appear to affect the optical soundness of this telescope. The eye piece has the standard rotating filter slider [ often missing]. The 3rd tube is signed; "Tele.Sct. Regts Mk11s/BC Ltd & Co/O.S 126 GA/10700/WD arrow". Complete with an original 2 piece leather case, now to a fine smooth, patina, sound stitching, and blemish free, and in fine condition. The closing tab is complete with it's buckle. The complete leather shoulder strap is in very good condition, as is the closing buckle, and is probably original. The o/a extended length is 30" [76cms], and when fully closed ...10.5" [26cms]. C 1944. Used mainly by the snipers using the No 4T 303 bolt action rifle, and was an essential part of the outfit issued. The tripod is in excellent condition, with 14 inch wooden legs, mounted with steel hinges to the tripod head, and steel spikes to the distal end [ for implanting into the earth]. It has a tilting mount/collar, with sprung, firm closing effected with a wing nut. The collar is stamped "Sig Tel Stand Mk V No 322" and "Consol 1916". This stand would take either a Signal Regiment Telescope, or a Scout Regiment Telescope. This particular telescope would date to C1944. An overall excellent outfit. Telescope manufactured by Broadhurst Clarkson Ltd & Co, London.
